A Powerful Gathering of Faith, Prayer, and Community
“Pour Out to the God of Hope and Be Filled” – Romans 15:13
A Local Tradition in a National Movement
This year marked the 74th annual observance of the National Day of Prayer across the United States. For the third consecutive year, Gleaning For The World had the honor of hosting a local event to celebrate and participate in this powerful national tradition.
A Day of Unity and Reflection
Held on the first Thursday of May, the National Day of Prayer invites Americans from all walks of life to join together in unified prayer for our nation, communities, and leaders. The event dates back to President Lincoln but was officially signed into law in 1952 by President Truman, declaring a National Day of Prayer.
At Gleaning For The World’s Concord, Virginia warehouse, staff members, volunteers, community leaders, and friends gathered under this year’s theme: “Pour Out to the God of Hope and Be Filled,” inspired by Romans 15:13.
Focused Prayers for Our Nation
The atmosphere was reverent and hopeful as individuals united in prayer for peace, unity, and wisdom for our leaders. Several local preachers and community members offered heartfelt prayers over specific areas of concern, including government, military, media, business, education, the church, and families; which are the traditional seven pillars of the National Day of Prayer.
The Meaning Behind the Theme
This year’s theme served as a powerful reminder that even in times of uncertainty or hardship, we are called to pour out our hearts before the God of hope. He promises to fill us with joy, peace, and unwavering faith. Romans 15:13 reads: “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.”
Looking Ahead with Faith
For Gleaning For The World, whose mission is rooted in service and compassion, hosting this event is more than just a tradition. It is an extension of our daily work to bring hope and help to people in crisis, both locally and around the world.
As prayers echoed across the warehouse, there was a tangible sense of unity and purpose. There was a clear reminder that in prayer, we find both strength and direction. Gleaning For The World looks forward to continuing this tradition for years to come, offering a space where faith and community come together in a spirit of hope.
