Measuring Impact One Life at a Time
When people hear the phrase giving levels, they often think about donor recognition. Many nonprofit organizations recognize supporters through giving tiers such as Friend, Patron, Visionary, Bronze, Silver, or Gold. Those levels celebrate the generosity of donors and the financial support they provide each year.
At Gleaning For The World, however, we like to think about giving a little differently. Rather than focusing on what has been given to us, we celebrate what has been given through us. After more than twenty-seven years of serving people in need, the numbers tell an incredible story, not of dollars raised, but of lives changed.
Welcome to the 100,000 Club
Over the years, Gleaning has reached an extraordinary milestone four different times. Each achievement represents far more than a number. Behind every milestone is a person whose life has been made a little easier, a little healthier, or a little more hopeful.
More than 100,000 pairs of eyeglasses have been distributed to children and adults around the world. For many recipients, receiving a pair of glasses has meant the ability to return to work, succeed in school, read God’s Word, or simply see family members clearly again. What may seem like an ordinary item to many of us can become life changing for someone living without access to basic eye care.
Gleaning has also provided more than 100,000 mobility assistance items, including walkers, crutches, and canes. These simple devices restore independence by allowing individuals to walk on their own, care for themselves, and participate more fully in everyday life. For someone who has struggled with limited mobility, the gift of movement brings renewed dignity and confidence.
Another milestone includes the distribution of more than 100,000 packages of diapers for infants, older adults, and individuals with disabilities. Diapers are one of life’s necessities, yet they can be an overwhelming expense for families already facing financial hardship. Providing these supplies helps relieve a burden that many people never think about while allowing families to focus on caring for their loved ones.
The fourth member of the 100,000 Club is 100,000 pairs of new shoes. Proper footwear protects children and adults from injury, infection, and the everyday challenges of walking without adequate shoes. For many children, receiving a new pair of shoes means walking into school with confidence and dignity for the first time.
Going Beyond 100,000
While these milestones are significant, they represent only a portion of Gleaning’s continuing mission.
Through the Teddy Bear Brigade, more than 700,000 stuffed animals have found their way into the arms of children facing disasters, medical emergencies, traumatic events, and other difficult circumstances. A simple teddy bear cannot erase hardship, but it can provide comfort, security, and the reassuring reminder that someone cares.
Gleaning has also distributed more than one million pounds of medical supplies to hospitals, clinics, and healthcare providers serving communities with limited resources around the world. These shipments strengthen medical facilities, improve patient care, and help healthcare workers continue serving those who depend on them.
As of mid-2026, Gleaning For The World’s humanitarian efforts have resulted in the distribution of more than $736,751,619 worth of food, clothing, medical supplies, hygiene products, eyeglasses, mobility equipment, educational materials, disaster relief supplies, and countless other essential resources. While that number is remarkable, it represents something much greater than financial value. It represents millions of opportunities to restore hope, dignity, and encouragement to people facing difficult circumstances.
Every Number Has a Story
None of these accomplishments would be possible without the faithful support of donors, volunteers, churches, businesses, community organizations, and corporate partners who believe in Gleaning’s mission.
Gleaning does not manufacture eyeglasses, build walkers, or produce stuffed animals. Instead, the organization gathers surplus resources that might otherwise go unused and places them into the hands of people who need them most. Every donated item becomes an opportunity to serve someone with compassion and practical assistance.
Behind every pair of glasses is someone seeing clearly again. Behind every package of diapers is a family receiving much-needed relief. Behind every pair of shoes is a child walking with confidence. Behind every teddy bear is a frightened child finding comfort during a difficult moment. Those stories belong not only to Gleaning, but also to every person who has chosen to partner with this ministry over the past twenty-seven years.
Looking Toward the Future
When Gleaning For The World was founded in 1998, the mission was to simply have no usable resource go to waste while someone in need goes without. That guiding principle continues to shape every truckload collected, every shipment prepared, and every partnership formed.
As Gleaning looks toward the future, the goal is not simply to reach another milestone or surpass another impressive number. The true objective remains to continue serving people, strengthening communities, and sharing hope wherever it is needed most. The numbers tell an incredible story, but they are only the beginning. Every donation, every volunteer hour, and every act of generosity helps write the next chapter. Together, there is no limit to the difference we can make.
