RESPONDING TO HURRICANE IDA
On the 16th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina striking the U.S. and leaving behind a tremendous wake of devastation and loss, Hurricane Ida followed closely in her footsteps.
Early on Sunday, August 29, Hurricane Ida hit the Louisiana coast as a strong category 4 storm with 150 mph winds. For reference, a storm must have 157 mph winds to become a category 5 hurricane!
One million residents are without power. Levees have breached. Bridges are damaged. Homes and businesses are flooded. Gleaning For The World is preparing to help!
There are three ways you can help:
Donate in person: We’ll be at our local Sam’s Club on Wards Road in Lynchburg, VA, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday (10am to 6pm) this week, accepting donations of nonperishable foods, cases of bottled water, hygiene items, pet foods and supplies, paper products, and cleaning supplies such as contractor trash bags and brooms, as well as financial donations.
Donate supplies on our Amazon Wish List: These supplies ship directly to our warehouse, where we sort and pack them for delivery to victims of natural disasters.
Give a financial gift: There are two easy ways to give a financial gift to Gleaning: You can give on our safe and secure online donation page by card or e-check, or you can mail a check to us at PO Box 645 Concord, VA 24538. Be sure to write “Ida Relief” on the check’s subject line to ensure your donation will be used for Hurricane Ida Relief.
In times of crisis, most people want to help, but many don’t know where to start. We try to make it easy for our donors to give directly to the families and individuals who are affected by these storms, with in-person supply collections, online shopping with our Amazon Wish List, or by the ability to give financial donations online. We’re right here in your back yard, and together we are making a difference all across the nation and around the world!
Thank you for joining hands with us to help those in need right now.
