Embracing Gratitude in Turbulent Times

Here in our own country we face increased anxiety – concerns over the economy, political matters, school challenges, senseless violence and so much more. The world seems so fragile.

Finding Peace in Faith and Blessings

Should we be thankful… even in hard times?

Just a quick glance at the News can be enough to leave us with feelings of sadness, anger, hopelessness, and fear. The escalating war in the Middle East leaves one unsettled. Checking the News more often, searching for some positive development, becomes a daily ritual. Perhaps a cease-fire…. Peace talks…. Something!

Here in our own country we face increased anxiety – concerns over the economy, political matters, school challenges, senseless violence and so much more. The world seems so fragile.

As believers, we know we have the Word of God to turn to and fully embrace. And when things get hard and we feel troubled, we know what we must do – put our complete trust and faith in God. We must lean into God more. That’s where we find our comfort, our security, and our hope.

Do you have a favorite scripture you turn to when times are difficult? Were you taught Bible verses growing up – those familiar words and phrases that still ring true, today? Scripture brings us promises of hope, love, and comfort.

Consider this favorite:
“May the LORD bless you and keep you; the LORD make HIS face shine on you and be gracious to you; the LORD turn his face toward you and give you peace.” (Numbers 6:24-26, NIV)

In good and bad times, we find peace in the blessings and graciousness of God.

More than ever, gratitude is felt for God’s blessings. Even in tumultuous times, there is much we are thankful for:

  • Gratitude for living in a country where worship is free, including regular devotional time with the Gleaning family—praying for those on our prayer list.
  • Gratitude for our families, and yours, whether traditional, extended, blended – living near or far.
  • Gratitude for the opportunity to make a difference in the world through Gleaning, a faith-based charity whose mission is to share the love of God, here at home and around the world.
  • Gratitude for the dedicated staff at Gleaning working daily to fulfill our mission each and every day.
  • Gratitude for sacrificial volunteers donating time to help sort and pack supplies, sew in the sewing center, and load/unload trucks.
  • Gratitude for Gleaning’s partners distributing supplies worldwide with love and compassion.
  • Gratitude for our financial donors and supporters who send their hard earned money, contribute in-kind donations, and who pray for us daily.

Approaching Thanksgiving, there is much to be thankful for. At Gleaning, we are especially thankful for you.
