HELPING THE AFGHAN REFUGEES
Although a few weeks have passed since the traumatic images hit our TV screens from Afghanistan, the resulting global refugee situation has now reached our shores.
The Pentagon and Department of Homeland Security reported they had evacuated at least 65,000 Afghans in August, as the UN and other countries also participated in evacuations. The White House has said it expects to resettle up to 95,000 Afghans in the U.S.
We recently toured a nearby military base where approximately 5,000 refugees are being housed, and cared for. These individuals and families are now 7,500 miles from home, many arriving with only the clothes on their backs.
Gleaning For The World is working non-stop to collect and distribute urgently needed items for this effort.
