DISTRIBUTING HURRICANE RELIEF SUPPLIES IN HOUMA LOUISIANA

“First pallet off; everyone smiling!”

I received this brief message and the picture above after our tractor trailer pulled into Covenant Church in Houma, Louisiana, yesterday morning.  A crew of the church’s members immediately began working to fill the church shelves with all of the supplies our supporters gave. After the truck had been unloaded and the shelves were stocked – a drive through distribution was set up and by afternoon, most, if not all of the supplies, had been distributed to members of the community.

What a day!

I’m impressed with this church family! In the event our truck had not been able to get into the church location due to downed power lines and storm debris, they were fully prepared to meet the truck and unload it wherever it was!  That’s how much these supplies were needed!

However, the truck was able to travel all the way to the church without any issues. God is so good. What a blessing in the midst of chaos.

In my message earlier this week, I told you about our contact person at the church; Jerry. I shared some things that Jerry told us about how their church has been helping their community in the aftermath of Ida, but I want to share one more thing:

Jerry told us: “God is using me in mighty ways – He’s using ya’ll in mighty ways. I’m just blessed that we could get y’all to help us out.”

Gleaning’s mission is to share God’s love at home and around the world. Our supporters give in obedience when they feel the Lord nudge them to give. Gleaning collects and delivers the supplies. Our receiving partners, (in this case, Covenant Church), gratefully receives and distributes those supplies to people who are going through life’s most desperate moments. God’s love is felt in every pack of toothbrushes and in every jar of peanut butter we deliver.

God is using each person involved in this process in mighty, mighty ways, just like Jerry said!
