UPCOMING LOCAL GLEANING EVENTS
I’d like to take a moment today to share about a few local programs that Gleaning For The World has going on righthere at home.
If you’re local, I’d like to invite you to participate in any or all of these events over the next few months.
Serving Our Veterans
Right now, during the month of October, we are holding a supply collection solely for our area veterans. The items we are collecting include new packaged socks and underwear, pens and notepads, gum and candy, as well as magazines and books. These items will be distributed to area veterans in need, beginning on Veterans Day and we will continue to distribute these items throughout the winter months.
Serving Our Churches
Another local program we are planning for later this month is a church safety seminar called Safe & Secure. On Friday, October 26th, national speaker and safety instructor (and friend to Gleaning!) Marko Galbreath will speak to area church representatives in our volunteer center from 9am until 12pm covering safety topics geared specifically towards churches.
Marko will present ways to keep your church facility safe and tips on how your safety team should react if a dangerous situation were to occur in your church. If you are interested in attending this free 3-hour seminar, please call our volunteer center at 434-993-3600 to RSVP. Seating is limited, so we are asking that each church bring only up to three representatives.
Serving Those In Need
On November 7th, we are hosting our second-ever Red Cross Blood Drive. We had a tremendous turnout at our first blood drive in May, and we are already taking appointments for November’s drive. If you are interested in donating blood at our volunteer center on November 7th, please call our office at 434-993-3600. Every blood donation can help up to three different people in need!
Serving In Celebration
On December 6th, we’ll be hosting our annual Wings Celebration luncheon, which will be held at the Spring House Restaurant on 460, just a few miles west of our Volunteer Center. This luncheon includes a presentation of the many ways our Wings women’s program has made a difference all around the world throughout 2019. Please contact our office to RSVP for this event by calling 434-993-3600.
In service and partnership,
