Gleaning For The World Celebrates Successful Veterans Day Supplies Collection
As the echoes of Veterans Day still resonate in our hearts, we are delighted to announce the resounding success of our recent Veterans Day supplies collection campaign. With an unwavering commitment to supporting those who have served our country, we worked tirelessly to gather essential supplies for Virginia’s Veterans.
In response to the pressing needs of Veterans facing homelessness and poverty, we organized a collection drive in front of Sam’s Club in Lynchburg on November 1 and 2, from 10 am to 6 pm each day. The community’s overwhelming generosity and support made the event a success, showcasing the surrounding area’s dedication to honoring and aiding those who have selflessly served.
Jeane Smiley-Mason, President of Gleaning For The World, expressed, “In keeping with our mission to show the love of God at home and around the world, we feel strongly that we must do all that we can for our Veterans. We want to give the public an opportunity to serve those who have served our country well.”
The collected supplies not only exceeded expectations but also paved the way for unique partnerships that further enriched the impact of this endeavor. We are proud to have collaborated with our local Harley Davidson store, known for its annual partnership with a local Veterans group to collect items for the area VA Hospital in Salem, Virginia.
A substantial portion of the collected supplies was graciously donated to the local Harley Davidson store, strengthening the bond between the community, local businesses, and Veteran support organizations. On November 15th, we are taking our commitment a step further by participating in a Veteran’s Stand Down event at the Salem Civic Center in Salem, Virginia. From 9 am to 1 pm, we will be on-site alongside other organizations, providing essential supplies to homeless Veterans and at-risk Veterans. The event, hosted by the Salem VA, aims to address the immediate needs of Veterans in our community and foster a sense of solidarity. Additionally, we recently contributed to a local hospital’s drive for veterans by providing hundreds of pairs of new socks. This generous donation supports the ongoing efforts of Centra Hospital to enhance the well-being of Veterans in our community.
As we continue to stand at the forefront of veteran support, our dedication goes beyond symbolic gestures, and helps bring about tangible and compassionate actions that uplift the lives of those who have served. The success of the Veterans Day supplies collection serves as a testament to the power of community collaboration and the impact that collective goodwill can have on the lives of our Veterans.
