February 18, 2025, | Concord, VA: The past few weeks have been heartbreaking. Back-to-back winter storms have left entire communities in ruins across the Southeastern and Eastern United States. Here in Virginia, we have watched as heavy rains have led to catastrophic flooding, washing away homes, belongings, and, tragically, lives.

At Gleaning For The World, we believe in showing up when disaster strikes. Right now, we are mobilizing to help those in desperate need in Southwestern Virginia and Eastern Kentucky—two of the hardest-hit areas. With reports of up to six feet of water flooding homes in Kentucky and yet another devastating flood in Grundy and Hurley, Virginia, we know that the road to recovery will be long. But we also know that together, we can make a difference.

We are actively working with our partners on the ground, assessing the most urgent needs and preparing to deliver essential supplies to families who have lost so much. Right now, we are collecting donations to help provide food, diapers (for babies and adults), cleaning supplies, personal care items, and even pet food for those who have been displaced by the flooding.

How You Can Help
If you are in the Lynchburg area, we invite you to stop by Sam’s Club on Wards Road this Friday February 21st between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. to donate much-needed supplies. Every item donated is one more piece of hope we can send to someone struggling in the aftermath of these storms.

For those who may not be able to donate in person but still want to help, financial donations are essential to covering the costs of transporting these supplies to the impacted communities. You can make a secure online donation here, or if you prefer, checks can be mailed to:

We are heartbroken for the families affected by these storms, but we are also determined to help them recover. Many of these same communities are still rebuilding from previous disasters, and now, they are facing yet another tragedy. Now is the time for those of us who can help to step up.

As we work together to provide relief, we ask for your prayers and support. Every act of kindness, whether it’s a donation, a shared post, or a simple prayer, helps lift the spirits of those in need.

In service and partnership,
