YEAR END GIVING – 2019
“Remember that the happiest people are not those getting more, but those giving more.”
Wow – how true that is!
It’s true in my life. And, as I watch those around me and those I interact with daily through the work of Gleaning For The World, it consistently rings true.
Do you agree?
I think it’s natural to think that happiness comes from receiving – especially as we compile a list of things we want for Christmas. Yet, we all find it repeated over and over again that life-sustaining happiness comes when we give of ourselves to others.
As you know, we do a lot of giving at Gleaning! We help those in extreme poverty…and those trying to recover from natural disasters and man-made disasters.
As we hand out bottles of water and blankets, medical supplies and meals, toothbrushes and teddy bears, we see a response of gratefulness and thanksgiving. Those receiving the help are encouraged, empowered and equipped to get on their feet – to believe that current circumstances can change, will change and that the future looks brighter.
However, for those giving…those who provide the supplies…those who provide the funding…those who volunteer and pack and load and hand-out the supplies, I see a spirit of happiness. For me, it is priceless to watch.
